Since this building is from the Art Deco era, I felt that it was important to celebrate that while also preserving the historic character of the building.  The programs I developed work well with the size of the floor plates and provide areas of interest which would hopefully draw in people and bring the building "back to life."

The Goal for the Lobby was to essentially restore the important features including much of the ornamental decoration (gold embossed trim with art deco details) and several of the chandeliers (over the bays). This includes restoration includes the "Map Wall" (which features a mural of the major auto routes at the time building was constructed by muralist John Norton). Also, desk areas were added

When asked to find a building for this project I felt that I needed to choose something that had more layers of meaning.  Since I have an interest in historic preservation/renovation, this building caught my eye when Preservation Chicago posted it to its list of threatened buildings for 2009.  I had the chance to visit this building back in June and was amazed at how much potential it has but

Whew!?! Well, I survived my first research experience at the Chicago History Museum. Mission accomplished! I am researching the old Chicago Motor Club building (now Wacker Tower) located at 68 E Wacker in Chicago for my first official graduate school project. I am really looking forward to what develops as the semester progresses...... stay tuned :)
